Movie Review: Galaxy Quest

Shortly after I met my hubby in person we started going to the movies. I thought we were friends hanging out and he thought we were "dating." The first movie we saw together? Galaxy Quest!

I believe even the casual fan of science fiction would love this for the humorous drama. A group of actors from a TV show finds themselves in a real life space adventure. A group of friendly aliens, the thermians, ask commander Tim Allen to help them confront a bad ass alien general. He and his "crew" need to figure out how to save their alien buddies after the general decimates their ship.

You haven't seen Sigourney Weaver look so good or play comedy in this way before. We never see Alan Rickman out of makeup and so the illusion of his "character" always reads "alien." Old hat at this SciFi stuff, Tony Shalhoub, seems unphased by the weird happenings.

The "real" aliens simply cannot be beat. Enrico Colantoni plays the good guy commander Mathesar. Robin Sachs as Sarris will put fear into your heart. They all just made me believe their backstory.

Let the stream of emotion wash over you as the story draws you to the edge of your seat and you'll convulse with laughter over the absurdity of it all. Lots of copies in both DVD and VHS. Coquille, Bandon, North Bend and Dora for the VHS. Try the DVD from Bandon or Mrytle Point.
