Movie Review: The Cooler

I love William H. Macy. I think he's an amazing actor in so many things he does. I don't feel the same with Alec Baldwin but I can appreciate him a little. Pretty similar to what I feel about Maria Bello.

This is a movie about Las Vegas and luck. I was born and raised in that gambling town and I can attest that the mythos expressed in this film no longer exists. On top of it, I don't believe in luck. I believe we make our own way in the world.

Macy plays a guy who is sent in from the casino management to cool down a player who's winning too much money. He brings bad luck until he meets a girl and falls in love.

Casinos don't make money from not paying out, they make money from the volume of the money traded on their floors. Maybe it's only five percent, but the sheer volume makes them millions if not billions. So right away I couldn't buy the premise.

Maybe someone without my views could just look past all that and see it as entertainment. Grab your card and check out the DVD from Coquille and the VHS from Bandon.
