Movie Review: Crazy in Alabama

I first saw this film on cable back when we had Starz and I just watched it every time it was on. Melanie Griffith stars as a mother and aunt with big dreams to go to Hollywood. Her abusive husband tries to suppress her dreams so she kills him and sets out on her trip.

She leaves her children with her mother who is caring for a pair of her nephews. The boys are more than the older woman can handle with all the new kids, so she sends them to live with their uncle. Set in 1965, One of the boys, Pjoe, witnesses the sheriff pull a black boy off a fence and kill him.

Very convoluted story, yes, but it keeps you interested throughout. Antonio Banderas does a really good directing job. Look for the DVD in Myrtle Point, Coos Bay and North Bend.
