Movie Review: Forbidden Planet

Anne Francis stars in Forbidden Planet.. woahhhhhh at the late night.. double feature.. picture show.. I wanna goooo ... ok.. So enough singing, your dog probably covered his ears on that one. Walter Pidgeon plays a rather mad scientist guy who finds himself and his daughter alone on an amazing alien planet.

Leslie Nielsen flies down in his space ship to check out the place, Pidgeon tries to warn the space crew off, but they've got orders to investigate. When they meet the father and daughter, they're greeted somewhat warmly, if a bit secretive. We get to meet Robby the robot and they show us their giant machine deep inside the planet.

The effects are state of the art for 1958, but I think they hold up well. I like the music and sound effects, though the inventor of the instrument called the Theramin, disliked using it for science fiction themes. He wanted to be mainstream classical, like a violin or piano.

Last time the Egyptian had a showing, we went to see it. I really enjoyed that they played some Flash Gordon shorts with it. Very cool. I hope they do more science fiction nights soon.

Zip down to Bandon for the DVD and VHS and North Bend has another copy of the tape.
