Movie Review: Cider House Rules

I'm a big fan of Tobey Maguire so it was easy to like this film. Be aware that it tackles many issues in a way that some conservative types might squirm over. Michael Caine plays a doctor who runs a home for orphans and in secret performs abortions for women.

Charlize Theron comes along with her fiance to end an unwanted pregnancy. Enamored owith Theron, Maguire decides to go off with them. He lives with a black family in the Cider house of the man's rich family. While her man is away at war Theron cheats on him with the young man orphan.

Well acted all around. The story is rather convoluted and didn't rise to the level of gem for that reason. Look in Bandon and North Bend for the DVD and the VHS copies are in Coos Bay, Coquille and North Bend.
