Movie Review: To Wong Foo Thanks for Everything, Julie Newmar

After yesterday's review, I couldn't get this movie out of my mind. Like Priscilla it features three drag queens who go on a road trip in a vehicle that breaks down. Wesley Snipes, Patrick Swayze and John Leguizamo find themselves in a small dusty town filled with dull gray characters.

Swayze's chracter, Vida Boheme, gives the best explanation of the various stages of lifestyles when he explains that trans-sexual men want to be a girl, gay men don't want to be with a girl and drag queens have too much femininity for either gender. In many ways, it's all camp and play acting. On another level, these people live more as their true selves than most of us. They certainly liven up the broken spirits of the townsfolk.

Stockard Channing gives an outstanding performance as an abused housewife. So head on out to Coos Bay and Coquille for a VHS tape and Bandon for the DVD of this silly charmer.
