Akeela and the Bee

Now here's an entertaining movie about spelling bees. Though a bit contrived, It tells the story of a girl from south central Los Angeles making it all the way to the national spelling bee. Laurence Fishburne puts in a brooding performance as Akeela's coach Angela Bassett makes is all cower as the girl's strong stubborn mother. Keke Palmer rounds out the cast as the lead. I found all the children's performances charming. Worth a couple hours of your time.
